Master musician Ady Johnson is excited to announce the release of his new EP Thank You For The Good Things on May 18th 2015, supported by a UK tour and EP launch at The Water Rats in London on Thursday 21st May. ‘Thank You For The Good Things’ is the second solo release for Ady since he fronted Colchester band FuzzFace; with his self-produced debut album ‘Tell The Worry Dolls’ receiving critical praise from R2, BluesMatters, as well as a recommendation for album of the year from Press Association. This EP takes a new turn, with Ady recording with Mercury Prize nominated/BBC award winning producer Gerry Diver (Tom Robinson, Lisa Knapp, Sam Lee). The EP combines the soulful delivery and intimacy of Ady’s performances, with Gerry Diver’s distinctive production style and multi-instrumental talents. A previous recording of the title track ‘Thank You for the Good Things’ has already been chosen for Tom Robinson’s BBC Introducing Mixtape and aired on his BBC 6 Music Show. A tribute to his late Grandfather, the track depicts Ady’s journey to music following his apprenticeship into the family business of antique furniture restoration and the emotional struggle of having to leave it behind.

My grandfather taught me the antique furniture restoration trade and was someone whose values and qualities I admired. The song deals with, in part, leaving the antique’s trade behind, in pursuit of music. “My arc of blood paints the ceiling” references a time I cut two tendons in my barre finger with a chisel, threatening to end to my guitar playing career. The song concludes with producer Gerry Diver adding the sounds of a workshop. Ady Johnson. Throughout the EP, weaves a very personal element of reminiscence and thanks with stripped back songs such as Wired Like You, showing someone who shows great strength and resilience in times of hardship. |
