Release Christmas single and named HMV ‘Next Best Thing’

Essex five-piece Missing Andy announce their contender for the Christmas number one slot, with the darkly comic, live favourite “Dave” being released on 18 December 2011. “Mistletoe & Wine” it is not.  The album from which it is taken, “Generation Silenced”, has been selected by HMV as part of their ‘Next Best Thing’ initiative and will be released on 6 February 2012.  The album features 12 new tracks, all written and produced by the band.  Missing Andy specialize in anthemic, hard-hitting songs that stimulate both brain and dancing boots.

“Dave” tells the story of ‘Dirty Suzanna’ whom the band meet in Canning Town after a gig.  She’s a girl with romance on her mind who’s keen to get onto the band’s bus, even if the guys are not so sure.  Sample lyric: “I put your band’s sticker on me Primark knickers, and I think that might’ve broken the ice”.  The song is laced with dub undertones and is in the same narrative vein as The Jam, The Clash and The Specials.  Despite the humour in the delivery, “Dave” nonetheless proves the band’s ambitious lyrical swagger and underlines the story-telling, lyrical approach that Missing Andy take.  Much of their material is inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised youth - their own tribe - and the social issues that most bands steer clear of.  The video for “Dave” is already causing a stir online; taking a break from more serious previous videos it’s a Carry On / Western style caper that features several band members in drag.

The band have already achieved two Top 40 hits with “The Way We’re Made (Made In England)” and “Sing For The Deaf” which came on the back of the band’s appearance on Sky One’s ‘Must Be The Music’.  In true, barnstorming Missing Andy style, they charged all the way to the final, performed in front of 11,000 at Wembley and then walked away from a deal with Universal that would have required changing what they were about.

Missing Andy are the real deal, an act with something to say who will fill the vacuum at the heart of some of today’s music and are already filling venues on their own.  With appearances and support slots requested from Shaun Ryder, Liam Gallagher and Madness, as well as more headline shows of their own, the band are certain to get their message heard.
